Hayley Parkes

Young Musician: Hayley Parkes

Having started playing piano at the relatively old age of 9, Hayley Parkes has made up for lost time. Since then she’s gained entrance to Manchester’s prestigious Chetham’s School of Music and then the Royal Northern College of Music. Most recently she was named to the shortlist for the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2014.

She is an active performer, playing across the country as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist and singer. Appearances include performances at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, BBC Proms 2011 as part of Mendelssohn’s Elijah and two performances at the Royal Festival Hall.

Taking music outside of the concert hall, Hayley has participated in workshops at children’s hospices and taught locally in the Midlands encouraging young pianists to experience performing on stage for the first time. She was the Head Girl at Chetham’s School of Music and was chosen as an ambassador for Britain at the ‘Commonwealth Resounds’ conference in Perth, Australia.

Her work musically has enabled her to branch out into other areas including a growing academic interest in both the psychological and philosophical aspects of music.
